A Day With The Bribri

Experience a day in the life of the Bribri people and get an up-close look at what life is like in the community!

The family will meet you on the banks of the Yorkin River and lead you along the trail to their home. There, you’ll be welcomed and will share a snack and refreshments with the family. You’ll hear about the Bribri people and their community, as well as their ways of life, and you’ll be invited to tour the village. Depending on the season, you may help with the cacao or banana harvest. Or you’ll participate in activities such as harvesting vegetables, preparing lunch, chopping firewood, or lighting the fire. Before lunch, you can take a dip in the Tscui River. The experience culminates with the preparation of traditional Bribri chocolate and a story about the importance of cacao in Bribri culture as both a ritual and a commercial element. At the end, a visit to the souvenir shop run by the organized families of Yorkin awaits you.
